About Me

SeaSide_Doula: Hello!! My name is Torrey Carlson. I am new to the birth world, about to take my DONA workshop July 10-12 2015. I currently work in Special Education in Huntington Beach. I have always been interested in everything surrounding the subject of parenting. When I discovered what a doula was and what types of options there really are out there for families, I was naturally captivated. I have an affinity toward pregnant/ parenting teenagers, advocacy & education on their behalf, as well as awareness and education about gender equality and domestic/sexual abuse issues. My fascination most likely stems from my own unique birth story. I was born out of a sexual assault and my mother was only 15 at the time she became pregnant with me. She gifted me to my family who adopted me when I was born (I hate the term "gave up for adoption" --no one "gave up"). She made the best possible decision for everyone involved at the time, and since it was an open adoption, she and I have a unique relationship that is very special to me. I eventually would like to start a non-profit that provides support to pregnant teenagers.
